T R Freemans’ Gary Webb goes back to school with latest contract win.

October 22 2018

T R Freeman has been awarded the contract to design and install the roofing element for a major new school expansion project in Chesterton, Cambridge, and the former school of T R Freemans’ Director, Gary Webb.

Due to open in 2019, a £10 million investment from Cambridge County Council has enabled Chesterton Community College to be rebuilt, as part of an ambitious plan to accommodate a further 300 students.

The new development will include a new entrance and reception, dining hall, teaching rooms and storage facilities. The school will have a new top-lit corridor linking the new facilities on both levels within a new 'Gateway' building.

There will also be new art classrooms and two new secured courtyards, providing outdoor seating and teaching space.

Gary Webb said “This is a really exciting project for us, it is on home soil and I have direct links to the school. It will be fascinating to see how it transforms to accommodate more students and I am sure the project will bring back some memories of my time there.”

T R Freeman has been awarded the project by main contractors Willmott Dixon and will be installing an IKO flat roofing system, structural metal decking, a Surespan access hatch, Bailey parapet capping and Bailey I-Line feature to the entrance pod.

The school expansion project is being carried out in a live environment, around the existing school and leisure centre.  T R Freeman will started on site Autumn 2018 and will call on their experience of similar education developments to ensure works are carried out with minimal disruption to those on site.
