Roofing firm wins £500,000 contract for major development in Greenwich

An architectural metal roofing and cladding company with more than 120 years of history has won a major new contract in London.

T R Freeman has been contracted to fit a £500,000 Marley liquid polymer roof to the New Capital Quay development in Greenwich.

The mixed use development is being constructed by Galliard Homes on the south bank of the Thames.

“This is a unique development in one of only four World Heritage Sites in London, and we are delighted to be fitting the roof,” said T R Freeman’s managing director Gary Webb.

“The development will have river frontage on three sides and amazing views towards the City, Canary Wharf and The O2.”

He added: “It’s the latest big contract for T R Freeman, and will become one of the most important properties we have worked on over the last few years.”

11 blocks are being built at the development, varying from four storeys to 15 storeys in the landmark peninsula building.

In total 636 luxury apartments are being built, along with a wide range of retail units.

Greenwich was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, and is the site of the Greenwich Meridian Line where world time is kept.

T R Freeman Ltd was formed more than 120 years ago and is now part of the well-known Kershaw Group.

The group employs just under 200 people with a turnover of £35 million.

It is heavily involved in the local community, including a record-breaking 10 year sponsorship of Cambridge United’s away shirts.
