T R Freeman awarded major £1.5m University of Cambridge project
The rainscreen cladding and single ply membrane roofwork for a major University of Cambridge project has been awarded to a Cambridge company.
Architectural metal roofing and cladding company T R Freeman will be starting its £1.5 million contract at the Hauser Forum in March.
It is designing and installing the full envelope substrate, rainscreen cladding and SPM roofing, for contractor Willmott Dixon.
The project at West Cambridge, the University's growing science and technology campus, will comprise two landmark buildings opposite the world-famous Cavendish Laboratory.
The news comes just a few weeks after T R Freeman announced five other education contracts, totalling £720,000.
Gary Webb, Managing Director of T R Freeman, said: “The Hauser Forum is a prestigious project and the buildings are rightly being described already as landmark.
“T R Freeman has been in Cambridge for more than 120 years, and to win a contract this important is very special for us.”
The new buildings have been partly funded by an £8 million donation to the University’s 800th Anniversary fundraising campaign from the Hauser-Raspe Foundation.
The Centre for Entrepreneurship will be home to Cambridge Enterprise, the University's science and technology commercialisation office, with offices, a seminar centre and cafe’ atrium.
T R Freeman has been in Cambridge since being formed more than 120 years ago and is now part of the well-known Kershaw Group.
The group employs 183 people with a turnover of £35 million.
It is heavily involved in the local community, including a sponsorship of Cambridge United’s away shirts.
