Cambridge Regional College extension celebrated with footy match

A number of companies that have worked closely on an extension for Cambridge Regional College are holding a friendly football match to celebrate the completion of the project.

The businesses are putting on a five-a-side match at the new King Hedges Road sports hall.

Kick off is at 4.30pm this coming Monday 23rd February 2009.

Players will come from businesses on the project team, including the college, T R Freeman, Kershaw Mechanical Services, Kier Marriott, Pick Everard, Fusion and Sense.

Ian Greenstock, the sales director of Kershaw Group, is one of the players.

He said: “As shirt sponsors of Cambridge United, we’ve got a bit of football talent in our business. But we’ve avoided the temptation to make this game too difficult for our opponents.

“See, we could have put our young fit players on the pitch and run rings round their team. But instead we have gone for the senior management including the group MD, company MD and our accountant.”

Ian added: “We might not be spring chickens, but we still have a few fancy moves to show the other teams.”

T R Freeman and its sister company Kershaw Mechanical Services are doing a total of £4.6 million of work at Cambridge Regional College.

It’s all part of the £23 million redevelopment of the Kings Hedges Road site, as the college moves to a single site.

It is adding a new hair & beauty and catering block; a dedicated motor vehicle workshop; new reception area; and extending its existing sports centre.

The work is due to be completed by April.
