Cambridge Regional College team beats T R Freeman in fun footy match

A five-a-side team from Cambridge Regional College has won a mini football tournament to celebrate the completion of a new sports hall.

A number of companies that worked closely on the college extension played at the new King Hedges Road sports hall last night (Monday 23rd February 2009).

They included T R Freeman, Kershaw Mechanical Services, Kier Marriott, Pick Everard, Fusion and Sense.

The CRC team won 2-0 against the Kershaw Group team in a thrilling final.

Ian Greenstock, the sales director of Kershaw Group, was one of the players.

He said: “As shirt sponsors of Cambridge United, we’ve got a bit of football talent in our business. But we avoided the temptation to make this game too difficult for our opponents.

“Unfortunately, our senior management including the group MD, company MD and our accountant just couldn’t beat the young fit players from the college!”

T R Freeman and its sister company Kershaw Mechanical Services are doing a total of £4.6 million of work at Cambridge Regional College.

It’s all part of the £23 million redevelopment of the Kings Hedges Road site, as the college moves to a single site.

It is adding a new hair & beauty and catering block; a dedicated motor vehicle workshop; new reception area; and extending its existing sports centre.

The work is due to be completed by April.
