T R Freeman picked to fit £650k Kalzip roof for major Network Rail centre
An architectural metal roofing and cladding company with more 120 years history has been chosen to construct the roof for a major new building being constructed in Milton Keynes.
T R Freeman will be installing four Kalzip roofs for the new Network Rail national centre.
It’s being built on the former site of the town’s hockey stadium near the MK railway station.
The development, being constructed by BAM Construction, consists of four office buildings and two multi-storey car parks, connected by a central atrium.
The contract is worth in excess of £650,000 to T R Freeman.
“Kalzip is a versatile and ‘in demand’ material, and will contribute towards making this building look stunning,” said T R Freeman’s managing director Gary Webb.
“The plans are extremely impressive. The architects have put together a building that will look amazing in what is a prominent part of Milton Keynes.”
He added: “We are delighted to be working on another key project with BAM following on from the LMB scheme in Cambridge and look forward to starting work in March.”
Building work commenced in August 2010, and topping off is due later this year.
Network Rail will move into the building in 2012 and it will be fully operational by Autumn 2012.
The idea is to have up to 3,000 people working in a single location, allowing Network Rail to be more efficient as a business.
The national centre has also been designed to be one of the most sustainable buildings in Britain.
T R Freeman Ltd was formed more than 120 years ago and is now part of the well-known Kershaw Group.
The group employs just under 200 people with a turnover in excess of £35 million.
It is heavily involved in the local community, including a record-breaking 10 year sponsorship of Cambridge United’s away shirts.
