T R Freeman to fit £950,000 of zinc roofs for new construction projects

An architectural metal roofing and cladding company with more 120 years history has won four contracts to fit new zinc roofs, worth a total of nearly £950,000.

T R Freeman has won four new contracts including two schools, a residential development and the roof of a crematorium.

“Zinc is such a highly expressive material and continues to be more and more popular in construction,” said T R Freeman’s managing director Gary Webb.

“We have been working with it for decades and can completely understand why it is so popular with architects.

“It gives them full creativity which they can express in any way they like. We apply the material in strips meaning it can adopt virtually any shape.”

He added: “Some of the most creatively-designed roofs we have worked on have been made from zinc.”

The four contract wins for T R Freeman are:

• A £350,000 zinc and copper roof at Nashmills School, Berkhamstead. The contractor is Bowmer & Kirkland
• A £275,000 zinc roof on the new Leventhorpe School near Stansted, for contractor Jarvis
• A £250,000 zinc roof for Kidderminster Crematorium. The contractor is Baggaley Construction
• An £80,000 zinc roof on Avonside, a residential development in Fleet, Hampshire

T R Freeman Ltd was formed more than 120 years ago and is now part of the well-known Kershaw Group.

The group employs just under 200 people with a turnover in excess of £35 million.

It is heavily involved in the local community, including a record-breaking 10 year sponsorship of Cambridge United’s away shirts.
