T R Freeman fits “difficult” roof in £400,000 contract
A difficult elliptical roof is being installed by architectural metal roofing and cladding company T R Freeman as part of an exclusive housing project in London.
The £400,000 contract will put the roof on part of the Arundel Square apartments and penthouses project in Islington.
The work, for contractor United House, has recently started and will take place over 26 weeks.
The 100 metre long elliptical roof has three separate radii and is almost “egg shaped” in section, challenging the company’s design expertise, fabrication accuracies and installation skills.
T R Freeman specialises in metal roofing and cladding, and thrives on projects that are of a complex nature, such as this one.
Gary Webb, Managing Director of T R Freeman, said: “Everyone loves a challenge and an elliptical roof is certainly that.
“But the results always look exciting, which is why the projects are a pleasure to work on.”
T R Freeman has been in Cambridge since being formed more than 120 years ago and is now part of the well-known Kershaw Group.
The group employs 183 people with a turnover of £35 million.
It is heavily involved in the local community, including a sponsorship of Cambridge United’s away shirts.
