T R Freeman plays its part for 2012 games with £350k natural roof

Architectural metal roofing and cladding company T R Freeman is playing its part in bringing the 2012 games to London.

It has been contracted to install three separate roofs circa £350,000 for part of the Croydon cable tunnel project to move high voltage power lines underground.

Once installed, the three separate wave form roofs will be completed by a £90,000 overlaid sedum nature roof also managed by T R Freeman, the largest they have installed to date.

The Kalzip roof and bullnose verges installed by T R Freeman’s are for contractor Morgan Ashurst.

Gary Webb, Managing Director of T R Freeman, said: “This tunnel is an important part of bringing the 2012 games to London, and we are delighted to be playing our part.

“We have worked on a number of nature roofs over the years, and they are stunning to look at when the project is completed.”

The cable tunnel is being built between National Grid’s substations at Rowdown and Beddington.

The £60 million project is being done to reinforce the electricity transmission network in the Southeast.

T R Freeman has been in Cambridge since being formed more than 120 years ago and is now part of the well-known Kershaw Group.

The group employs 183 people with a turnover of £35 million.

It is heavily involved in the local community, including a sponsorship of Cambridge United’s away shirts.
