Stainless Steel Roofing

Stainless Steel Roofing

Stainless steel is a popular material for roofing and building envelope solutions as it’s extremely durable, long lasting, light weight and low maintenance. We source our stainless steel from manufacturers such as Aperam (formerly ArcelorMittal Stainless) who can provide us with a wide variety of grades, forms and finishes to suit our client’s projects.

Stainless steel is an alloy of iron, chromium, and sometimes nickel and other metals. It has excellent resistance to corrosion from air pollution which, combined with its smooth surface, means it requires very little maintenance. It is highly versatile and blends extremely well with other materials including glass, timber, concrete and composites, making it ideal for construction.

It is easy to maintain and used to impressive aesthetic effect for roofs, cladding, façades and metalworking, as well as interior decorative finishes. Speciality finishes from Aperam include Terne coated (Uginox AME), low reflective options (Ugitop, Ugipass and Ugiline) and highly reflective for building envelope solutions (Ugibright).

Stainless steel’s thickness is typically less than that of other metal roofing materials, which allows for the design of a lighter, more cost-effective supporting structure. Although low in weight, stainless steel has a high profile in terms of durability. Stainless steel roofs can be made using a variety of techniques, from the traditional standing seam method to special welded techniques.

Environmental Impact

Stainless steel is the most recycled material in the world. Although long lasting, it can be recycled repeatedly without loss of quality, resulting in raw material savings and reduced environmental impact in the manufacturing process. At the end of a building’s life, steel components can be dismantled easily with a high reclamation rate.
